The adventure really begins…

So I am out of Ljubljana. And as much as I enjoyed it it’s really a city break holiday with not loads to do after a few days.

I will get the ‘wince inducing’ item first. I had foal/baby horse for dinner last night. (And it was absolutely fantastic) Small, local place in Ljubljana and the server recommended it highly. Started with beef tartar with different toppings - marmalade - a ricotta stuffed squash flower but wrapped with prosciutto. Main was accompanied by compa which is a baked potato with cheese curd, butter and shaved feta. And a small salad.

(In my defense, it’s not like they are picked to order. My Pretty Pony was already in the fridge. And nobody said anything after the weird stuff I ate there)

Just to close the food loop - had an amazing final breakfast treat at hotel, the steamed strudel with cheese curd and topped with more cheese and butter. And I am currently enjoying a thin crust pizza with prosciutto, olives and artichokes. Pizza is everywhere and it easy to forget how close to Italy I am.

Trip to Bled was uneventful. Grabbed the rental car and it was only 1 1/2 hours away. Ps: google maps worked great and what is the Apple CarPlay? And why doesn’t Toyota have it.

I knew it would be too early to check in to hotel, so I passed Bled and continued on to Bohinj which is another deep glacial lake. The pictures just don’t justice. First stop was a little beach with a few families and folks blowing up stand up paddle boards. A local Union beer was included with a so-so panini also from a can, I think.

The against my better judgement I headed to a waterfall that feeds the lake from an unknown underground source. It was a lot of stairs. But ultimately I think it was worth it. (Once again, so many dogs)

So I am back in Bled. Both are quite touristy (lots of adventure activities) but it is kind of a must do. And I’m glad I did.

Tomorrow will be different, but more famous, lake stuff. And a castle. And a thermal soak and a massage.
