Distillery!
Who knew Slovenia was big on the gin scene?!?
After a slow start with a nice breakfast at an outdoor cafe near the hotel, I revisited a few stops from the tour and took advantage of the clear skies to visit the castle. Which while truly castl-esque, is more events and exhibit space.
I thought I had a plan in place for the gin tasting until the hotel couldn't get me a taxi. After a bit of legwork on my own, I arrived a couple minutes late for a fun little afternoon of tasting and history. (Three friends decided to make malt whiskey but since it take at least three years to age, and one was a gin drinker, they jumped into gin which takes just a few months) A true story of doing what you love.
And yes, two of the partners broke bones at the same time - femur under a still and a nose with a golf club - hence the name.
Once back in town, the city hosts an ‘open kitchen’ street fare event every Friday night. About 20 vendors with all types of food, sweets and wine. I opted for the roast pork with potatoes, some local white wine and a steamed chocolate strudel.
Even found an outdoor concert on the way home.
