So on my first trip to Europe in 1998, I was in Venice and was using a rail pass. My next stop was Austria and I decided to be brilliant and give me an extra day in Venice (amazing) and save on a hotel room by doing to night train to Vienna.
It was bit like the scene in Dr Zhivago with everyone in their bunk. In the middle of the night it got freezing and in the morning I realized we had crossed the Alps in the darkness and I missed it.
Well not this time. While technically the Julian Alps, I drive from Bled to Dobrovo via the Vrsic Pass and it was amazing. (As always the photos don’t really do justice)
50 hairpin turns. And more bicyclists and motorcyclists than I care to count.
BECAUSE EVEN ON THE ROAD YOU NEED STANDARDS!
An occasional travel blog and stories from the road. With special thanks to Bette for the postcards, to John for the motivation to start and to Mom and Dad for understanding the joy of the trip.
