If Nantucket, South Beach and LA had a child, it might be Dubai. It's big, glitzy, expensive and beautiful. There is every imaginable western/international chain represented from Ramada and Five Guys to Dunkin and Dominos. And every big name has multiple locations. (So make sure you Uber to the right place) Oh and you can't really walk anywhere, so taxi, Uber - there is a limited metro.
It's beautiful and the service is top notch. Every service member is from somewhere else - SE Asia and Africa. (I actually got offered a job at brunch today). But the living conditions sound pretty deplorable.
I have not made it to the souk yet but there isn't much of historical significance. Even the Disney-esque stretch of public beach is closing for new development.
If I was an expat, I think I would love it. Otherwise, Dubai you have two days to work your magic.
(Ps: the thump of the house tracks follow me everywhere)
What an incredible trip! Thanks for sharing the journey.
ReplyDeleteYes. All of it has been amazing and a bit overwhelmed. Plus the body doesn’t bounce back quite like it used to do.
ReplyDeleteDon’t get caught doing anything naughty anywhere either!
