Sucker for a Souk

So Dubai has scored a major point with an evening visit to the old city and the textile, spice and gold souks. And they are divided on both sides of what they call 'the creek'. The south side was the original settlement of Bur Dubai.

The first thing I noticed in the taxi over is that there were people out walking everywhere. And they aren't tourists. This is the immigrant labor housing section. So lots of south Asians - Indian, Bangladeshi and Pakistani - with all the appropriate shopping and restaurants to match.

After a quick stroll through the textiles, it is a lovely warm evening and I am enjoying a lemon mint drink and some chicken mousakan rolls - yum. And enjoying the 'abra' water taxis churning by.

The trip to the opposite shore was uneventful - although I suppose it would be better if I wanted to buy copious amounts of gold jewelry.

Off to Abu Dhabi and the Grand Mosque tomorrow. Tuesday flight home is early.

(Yes, those are green lipped mussels with some sort of brown sauce with peppers - living dangerously, but they were well cooked)
