I find myself in a small unassuming storefront in a bad part of San Telmo - La Vineria de Gualterio Bolivar. (the door to enter is locked from the inside) a blackboard, twenty seats and grandma's breakfront filled with extra glassware The meal is a fourteen course tasting menu (with wine pairings) of some of the most creative food I have ever had. A chopped almond and assorted herb salad with frozen beet juice served with cheese milk - tableside
Almost better than the food is the attentive and very knowledgeable English speaking service staff that announce and explain each course (and wine). Nicholas my sever/guide uses my consumption as his guiide for the wine - often tasting along with me. It is elegant yet totally unassuming.
Charlie Trotters and OyYa watch out La Vineria is making a run at the best food experience to be had - anywhere!
(Strawberries with balsamic vinegar served along side a brown sugar ice cream - two spoons to be eaten in one bite!)
Yes, the best meal we had in BA, and Nicholas is so charming, it was only 9 courses when we went. It was also our most expensive, a big $140 which included about 6 glasses of wine (each) :) enjoying the blog!
