No matter the locale, food is a binding thread to which we can all relate. And while some will say I am a food snob, today's lunch (tip o' the hat to Anthony Bourdain) the "completo" - a foot long hotdog - was served at a stand up counter on a non-descriptive street in Vina del Mar about 15 minutes from Valparaiso. It also moves to the top of the list of my best meals regardless of atmosphere or ingredients! Best I can tell, it is a sub roll sliced to form an envelope, regular hotdog, simple sauerkraut, sweet relish, diced tomatoes, generous helping of mashed avocado to seal the envelope and then a healthy smear of mayo (probably homemade) my fellow diners added a squirt of ketchup to which I followed suit - not sure about mustard. So good, I am trying to figure out how to get another before Thursday.
Speaking of Thursday, I have decided to leave Valparaiso a day early and rent a car to drive back to Santiago.
The weather is just not warm enough to beach it (fog hung around until 3 today) so I will overnight at the Matetic Vineyard tomorrow night and perhaps make a few other stops on my way to my midnight flight to Miami on Thursday and then Boston on Friday.
To be sure more food will be involved.
