So I find myself in the city of Split and in a very fashionable rooftop restaurant t that was recommended by my innkeeper. (If you have seen the movie ‘The Menu’ I am not sure we will all make it out alive. The severs are wearing a strange tunic smock)
Split is big. It is crowded (although not excessively) It is dominated by the waterfront and the constant flow of ferry’s to Croatia 1200 islands. And Diocesan’s Palace. (he was an emperor of Rome and build the palace as his retirement home. The city built up around it)
I had a nice relaxing breakfast along the waterfront - homemade sourdough with ham and cheese. Then a wander through the cathedral and on my way along the coast to Split.
(Just had two nice conversations one with a slightly over-served guy working for US government and doing outreach for a year. And another with a retired professor from Penn State, here to present at a conference. There is also a group of young American ladies celebrating a 30th birthday)
No one has died at dinner yet and the fish stew was excellent.
There is a jazz club I want to visit on the way home. Then the palace tomorrow followed by a food tour in the evening.
BECAUSE EVEN ON THE ROAD YOU NEED STANDARDS!
An occasional travel blog and stories from the road. With special thanks to Bette for the postcards, to John for the motivation to start and to Mom and Dad for understanding the joy of the trip.
