Greece is this way

So who guessed my last day in Tel Aviv would come so quickly. Off to Jerusalem in the morning. If time was of the essence, I would cut a day from the itinerary - however based on my sleeping patterns improving since Friday I am happy for a day at the beach.

I didn't have much planned and woke a bit early. I returned to my breakfast spot from Saturday and was not surprised how much busier it was on a regular work day. There were also hipster "30 under 30s" everywhere (how do you get into skinny jeans?). I went healthy with a granola and yogurt option and then decided that I should tour the market on the way to the beach.

The market is a civilized take on my experiences in the Moroccan souks. Lots of household and kids clothing, some food - mostly fruit - and a very few food stands.

While the market was busy the beach was delightfully empty. A workday and a low cloud and fog day as well. I was happy for the peace and quiet and the sound only of the waves. The sun popped in and out and by 3 ish I was a little hungry. I ran back to the market for a take away mixed grill (chicken and lamb with tahini and salad fixing) sandwich. I brought it back to beach and with a peach iced tea was a happy camper as the sun finally broke out in full.

Sadly the winds once again turned on-shore just after 4 and I knew I had an early-ish dinner reservation.

So I am back in Jaffa in one of those porch windows that hang off the side of the building overlooking the Mediterranean. The sunset was obscured by the return of the clouds. But I am enjoying the best white sangria ever (pear and cinnamon) and an interesting take on ceviche which is very heavy on parley and tomato. The main course is black seafood pasta - mussels, shrimp and calamari. Very tasty. Oh and yes, this is a Greek restaurant and it only makes me want to plan that trip more.

So I promised to move at 8pm for a reservation at the window so I am up at the bar for coffee and a Arab cheese dessert with pistachio ice cream. For my trouble I am offered a shot of ouzo. Ouuzooo!

So tomorrow ends the food blog and begins the travels - in earnest.
