But it's a dry heat

The warm clothing packed since Portugal is finally coming handy. It was 100 today and is forecast for the next several days as well.

After a restless sleep - my back was aching from the train - I had a very nice breakfast again the garden and then set out to see Marrakech. My first stop - once I found the main square was the lamb ovens. In case you missed it I do have a thing for lamb and as it is not as common as it should be back home I try to search it out. My guidebook actually mentions a Jamie Oliver show where he visits the lamb ovens. Essentially underground firepit a where they roast whole lamb and then you buy by the kilo. A bit piece and some bread for 30DH - but packed away for lunch.

After that I visited the outside of the large mosque and imposing minaret and then one of the old palaces which was really just a collection of the beautiful hotels I've stated in so far. Then the old palace ruins and an old cemetery where all the tombs are covered in ceramics. (I actually met a couple from the dar in Fes at the ruins) This was all outside the medina. None of it was really breathtaking and the heat was truly unbearable. So about 3 I heads back to the respite of the riad.

After a cold shower and some re packing for the desert I settled up with Akmet and tackled the square. I wanted some tea glasses and Akmet sent me to a good spot and gave me a price range. I found a nice set in purple with a cool Berber henna design. I am trying to find a ceramic the reminds me of the Spain and Morocco legs but that is a tough find. And the suitcase will be overweight as it is.

I've retreated to a second level terrace to view the chaos of the square with some mint tea. I am hesitant to go too crazy with the food stalls but I will sample a bit

There is almost nothing that can't be found in the square or the souk. All sorts of fresh food, fruit, pastries and spices, clothing, silks, carpets, silver, housewares, soaps, leather, ceramics, slippers, cooked food, fresh squeezed orange juice, snake charmers, monkeys, drummers, belly dancers and of course all matter of souvenirs.

Dinner was nothing special after wandering around for a bit - I was called Bruce Willis by every guy at every stand - I finally decided on a safe bet of mixed kabobs with frites and water. Back at the riad and ready for bed.

Next stop the desert!
