So there is really only one thing to do in Porto and that is drink. Which made Sunday morning a perfect time to sleep in a bit and get sorted with some laundry etc. Most hotels include breakfast so why miss out - got up and dressed appropriately then went back to bed and watched CNN (does anyone else think this Malaysian plane is on the Dharma island on Lost!)
So around noon I headed across the bridge to the other side of Porto where the Port Cellars/caves are located. It is another beautiful day and the waterfront is bustling! I stopped for another bite before port and just had the preset meat and cheese board with another port and tonic (perfect)
So there are about 20 houses represented and they almost all do a tour followed by a tasting or just a tasting or by the glass. Everything is pay to play but good value. The best reviewed is Graham's so I do the tour and the tasting. Most interesting is that the vineyards and production is upstream (tomorrow's tour) and the ship the barrels after a year or two as the climate near the sea in Porto is more stable.
(For the record Graham's was classic, Ferreira was whites and Sandeman with chocolates)
I am now back across the bridge at the Bar Ponte Pensil (under the bridge) for some live music (I was here last night after dinner for coffee and Port with music. Dinner was ok - fried sardines with red beans and rice but it was absolutely freezing outside in the riverfront café)
