So my first impression of Lisboa is that is an incredibly old and beautiful city that hosts a truly hip and modern lifestyle.
Overall the place is overrun with tourists (many on weekend getaways from the rest of Europe) and the residents seem very young but super friendly - as well as completely fluent in English. And perhaps a few other languages as well.
I went to a thoroughly modern mall in the heart if the old town today to buy the SIM card for my unlocked phone. No surprise it didn't work at first at the Portuguese version of Best Buy but the phone store kiosk guy did some magic and now I can use my phone for local calls and data. (Cheap and worth doing)
After a nice long sleep I enjoyed the hotel continental breakfast with meat and cheeses!!
Then a leisurely walk, stop at the mall and a stop for some ginginha which is sweet cherry liquor that is served at a little shop off the main square. For 12 noon on a Sunday Funday there seemed to a lot of people looking to get drunk on the stuff. I just had one but may be back!
Then a tram ride to the old castle (got some ideas for my Clash of Clans strategy) and finally a long walk to the Tile Museum which was interesting to see but not terribly informative.
Then back to the large square by the sea for some happy hour with some sardines on toast.
Dinner tonight was a most fortunate find Restaurante Madragoa (much is closed on Sundays). A small local place not far from the hotel. Chorizo like sausage with a fried egg and chips. They could not have been nicer welcoming me with "you will not dine alone, you are with us tonight"
Indeed
