(yes I've been waiting to use that for two days)
So this is very HGTV but I am looking out the window of the ferry boat - it is a beautiful day - pale blue sky but the water is a very muddled brown but the combination is actually very soothing to look at - which I guess explains why pale blue and brown are so popular.
Dinner was good last night. Sadly not great as billed. First stop was a stately old mansion that now serves as a bar and restaurant. Very young and hip and a nice place for a drink. Then on to dinner at the parrilla. So busy that they actually have two location across the street from each other. They serve champagne out on the sidewalk while you wait. (but only for the last 5 minutes). The inside is something like the Bubble Room on Captiva Island in FLA. Lots of old stuff and toys hanging from the walls and ceiling. I ordered a bottle of red wine, fried provolone cheese and a steak. The provoletta was at least a half pound and nicely seasoned with oil, garlic and herbs. There is also a nice bread basket. It's good but a little overwelming to finish. Then comes the steak and the sides. The steak is served on a long wooden paddle with several sauces and dried tomatoes. Then there is a cake stand with another six or so little dishes of everything from applesauce to mashed squash. Sadly the steak was not as rare as it should have been and I didn't find the argentine beef to live up to the hype but I did a good job on it all. After coffee and more dulce de leche en crepe with ice cream the waiter brought me a lemoncello (on the house). A perfect night cap and a very nice way to finish - I thought. When he brought me the bill he also brought me another bottle of wine - on him - I had asked about the steaks doneness but didn't make a big fuss (Tania Jones) so apparently he felt bad about it and comped me a bottle to go!!
Got home at about 130 (this late dinner thing is crazy) and had an email from Kevin and John from Nantucket. They get here Saturday for a week so we are hoping to at least get together on Sunday. (after that they are going to Mendoza and I will be in Salta) So this am was a little rough - not from the wine but the food. We are just pulling into Colonia de Sacramento - I'll be here overnight and all day tomorrow.
Waiter- "Oh Christ... Another complaining American bitching about his steak dinner!".
ReplyDeleteResturaunt Owner- "Tell him to take this bottle of 5 peso wine and beat himself over the head with it until his taste buds find the meat to be the correct temperature!"
Ok Mr Allan you were right I may regret this comments section. But the point I was trying to make was that I didn't complain (like someone else we know at American Seasons) and that for being nice I got a 90 peso bottle of wine (which is about 25 USD)
