Salta

So today was as planned a travel day. I had a mid morning flight from the domestic airport (which apparently the taxi drivers are not aware of the name) and after an uneventful two hour trip arrived in Salta mid-afternoon.

I had booked my hotel for one night and has an idea what I wanted to do but no details. An hour after arriving I had everything planned out, thanks to a very friendly, knowledgeable and English speaking front desk agent - Martin.

With that sorted I head out to see the town. It is overcast and much cooler than I had planned on (and packed for). There a much different feel and look to Salta - much more Spanish I think as opposed to the European feel of Buenos Aires. A short walk from the hotel is a large plaza surrounded by huge edifices representing the town hall, a museum and an enormous church. Salta adheres to a similiar dining schedule but includes the traditional afternoon siesta. So the church is closed until 430. While I wait I try another version of the empanada and go for a wonder inside this magnificant building. In my travels I have seen a lot of churches and all in all they are some of the most remarkable structures ever built. Hopefully the pictures will convey this better than words can.

As I am leaving the skys have opened and I decide to head back to the hotel for my own siesta. The hotel is a converted convent so it a maze of tiny hallways and courtyards. (it sounds like there are people in my bathroom until I realize that there is a small window over the sink into a hallway).

So tomorrow I will rent a car and hope for good weather to explore the country-side.

[maybe it is me but I am just not blown away by the argentine beef. Another meal - just ok. Steak in a Malbec wine sauce a nice array of julianne cut vegetables. And little potatoe balls - meh! But did recieve a very nice and complimentary lemoncello after my coffee]
